Any gamer knows that one cannot downplay the importance of body english when playing video games. Sure, the controller can't technically transfer yoiur enthusiastic movements from your wildly gesticulating limbs to the console, but that is entirely beside the point. It's part of the visceral nature of a good game that transports the player from their living room, or couch, or whatever, and into the gaming experience so completely that they feel the need to get the whole of their physical being involved. Of course we realize that yanking the controller left or right won't effect how tightly we hug a corner in a racing game. Nor will our quick darting movements save us from incoming fire when battling Dr. Willy's evil robots. That's not the point though, the point is, it's more fun that way.
